| 1.
Excavation |
The
excavation contour should extend beyond the surface to
be paved by a distance equal to 1 to 1 1/2 times the thickness
of the foundation. Don't forget to allow for a minimum
incline to ensure adequate drainage. We recommend the
use of a geotextile membrane between the natural soil
and the foundation materials to prevent the mixing of
the two, as well as to provide greater stability for your
project. |
| 2. Foundation |
To obtain optimal
stability, you must fill the excavated area with a layer
of crushed stone and compact it several times. |
| 3. Curbs |
If you are installing
either Universal Curbs or Universal Mini-Curbs you should
do so now. If you have chosen the Celtik curbs, they will
be installed at step 5, prior to the stabilization of
the pavers. |
| 4. Installation
Bed |
Spread and level
a uniform layer of concrete sand or screening in the excavation.
Any significant variation in bed thickness may cause irregularities
in the paved surface. Important: Take care to avoid compacting
the sand before putting the pavers in place unless on
a concrete slab. It is preferred to pre-compact setting
bed on slabs. Compacting the pavers with a vibrant plate
later on will ensure they are well embedded in the installation
bed. |
| 5. Laying
the Pavers/Slabs |
Arrange the pavers
according to the pattern chosen. Make sure the spacing
is uniform and check the alignment of the pavers on a
regular basis. Install the Celtik curbs on each side of
the paved area now. Stabilize the pavers by using the
vibrating plate. Note: This last procedure is not suitable
for slabs. |
| 6. Filling
the joints |
Spread concrete
sand over the pavers and work it into the joints by brushing
in all directions. For best results, use Techni-Seal polymeric
sand or stabilizing sand. Stabilize the pavers once again
with the vibrating plate. Note: This last procedure is
not suitable for slabs. |
